What are the activities in production at Vion?

At Vion Food Group, operations in production include various steps in the meat processing process. Some key parts of the production process are described here.

1. Slaughter and initial processing

This is the first step in the production process, in which animals (pig and beef) are slaughtered and their carcasses processed. This includes the removal of skin and internal organs and cleaning the meat.

2. Boning and cutting

After slaughter, the carcasses are further processed, by dividing and boning them. This means the meat is cut into pieces of different size, depending on the final product Vion supplies to customers.

3. Portioning and packaging

In this step, the meat products are cut to size and weighed to ensure they exactly meet the customer's specifications. This may mean packing the meat in smaller portions for supermarkets or in bulk for larger customers.

4. Cooling and quality control

To guarantee the freshness and safety of the meat, it is refrigerated. Throughout the production process, the meat is checked for quality and hygiene to ensure it meets strict food safety requirements.

5. Processing into finished products

Vion not only produces meat as a product but also offers further processed products. These can be marinated pieces of meat, but also pre-cooked products and ready-made meals.

6. Shipping and logistics

After the meat is processed and packaged, it is shipped to customers. This requires a strong logistics chain, so that the products arrive at customers on time and in optimal condition.

These operations take place in a controlled environment where food safety, quality and animal welfare are key. Vion has developed production processes that meet the highest standards, following strict rules and protocols to ensure that their products are safe and sustainable.
